Article

We will be using the CHOOSE Function for today's tutorial to determine each company we had Dollar-cost Averaging in. For the examples, we will be taking Vanguard 500 Index Fund ETF, SPDR Gold Shares, Tesla Inc, Apple Inc, Microsoft Corp and Facebook prices. Without further ado, let us get started.

How to use CHOOSE Function

How to use the CHOOSE Function? For our first example, let us find the company of our choice by simply choosing 1 to 6. Select Cell C15, type in equal, Choose, open parentheses. Select B15. This cell will be representing our Index Number. Next, we will be selecting our values. Move your cursor and select cells C6 to C11 and hit return. You will get value. This is because we have not added our index number. Select B15 and type in 2, and hit return. You will get SPDR Gold Shares.

Now let us use the choose function and find the total cost of the company. Select Cell F15, type in equal, Sum, open parentheses. Type in choose and open parentheses again. Next, we will select cell E15 as the cell for our Index Number. Type in Comma. Move your cursor and select Cell D6 to Cell O6. Repeat the steps from row 7 to row 11. Close parentheses twice and hit return. As usual, you will get Value. Let us type in 3 in Cell E15. You will get $3761.12. The total Sum for Tesla Inc.

Lastly, we will look at the average cost per month for Apple Inc for our last example. Select Cell I15. Type in equal, Average, open parentheses. Type in choose, open parentheses and repeat the steps from our previous example from row 6 to row 13. Close parentheses twice and hit return. To find the average cost per month for Apple Inc. Select cell H15 and type in 4, and hit return. You will get $97.28.
